LUTH petitions panel over failed surgery by cosmetic surgeon

The management of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, has urged the Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Investigation Panel to investigate the alleged professional misconduct of a Lagos-based cosmetic surgeon and owner of Med Contour Aesthetic Clinic, Dr Anuoluwapo Adepoju. The hospital, in a petition dated June 11, 2020, and signed by its Director of Legal Services, O. O. Olajide, accused Adepoju of professional misconduct during a surgery she performed on one Miss Nneka Onwuzuligbo at her facility. According to LUTH, Adepoju had continued to perform surgeries despite the fact that her facility was sealed off by the Lagos State Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency. In an affidavit attached to the petition, the hospital alleged that Adepoju referred the late Nneka from her facility to LUTH on January 3, 2019, on the pretext that she was being referred from the General Hospital, Odan. WASSCE 2020: FG stops resumption of unity schools

The Federal Government has put on hold the planned resumption of federal schools. It has also stopped students from participating in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations earlier scheduled for August 4 to September 5. The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, disclosed this to State House Correspondents at the end of a meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). The minister said federal schools would remain closed until it is safe to reopen them. He also urged state governments that have announced school resumption plans to rescind such. Adamu stated that the West African Examinations Council could not determine the resumption date of schools for Nigeria. He said he would prefer that Nigerian students lose an academic year than to expose them to heath dangers amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Sexual harassment not peculiar to Nollywood –Chiwetalu Agu

Veteran actor, Chiwetalu Agu, has said that there are incidents of sexual harassment in every profession, not just Nollywood. He told  Sunday Scoop , “Sexual abuse happens in every profession, whether it is medicine or law. We have also heard of lecturers who demand for sex from their students in order to award them high scores. Even in government circles, it happens. It affects all strata of society. I’m hale and hearty, Ebenezer Obey dispels death rumour

Fans of juju music icon, Ebenezer Obey, were gripped with apprehension on Saturday, July 4, 2020, as news spread on the Internet that he had passed away. Frantic phone calls started being made and received all over the world and many waited with bated breaths to hear from the musician’s family. Many heaved sighs of relief as Obey appeared in a video made by his son, Folarin, to assure his teeming fans that he was still very much around. He said, “I give thanks to God Almighty. I am hale and hearty. There is nothing wrong with me. Osun records 14 new COVID-19 cases, two deaths

Osun State Government has confirmed 14 new cases of coronavirus and recorded two death from the pandemic. The State’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Rafiu Isamotu, in a statement, said with the development, the number of our active cases as of Saturday, July 4, is 95. Isamotu also disclosed that four patients were discharged from the state’s Treatment and Isolation Centre on Saturday after testing negative for the virus. The Commissioner noted that the new cases were discovered following contact tracing of previous cases in the State. He then enjoined residents to always observe all the precautionary measures laid down by the State against the spread of the virus. The statement read in parts, “With the latest development, the number of our active cases as at today, Saturday, July 4 is 95. We have 165 confirmed cases, out of which the State has successfully treated and discharged 63 patients while seven deaths have been recorded.”

Policemen search Magu’s house

Some policemen attached to the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department on Tuesday searched the home of the suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu. A top police officer told The PUNCH that the policemen searched Magu’s house located on Abduljalil Street, Karu Site, on the outskirts of Abuja,  for several hours and made away with vital documents. The policemen who carried out the search were said to be the same ones who arrested Magu on Monday. The officer said, “On Tuesday evening, a team of policemen stormed the home of Magu in Karu. That is the house where Magu used to live before he moved to Maitama after his appointment as EFCC chairman. “The policemen made away with some items and everything will be processed as investigations continue.” Meanwhile, it was learnt that Magu was detained for a second day after answering questions from the panel for over five hours on Tuesday. Chinese couple lock up eight Nigerian employees for four months

The police have arrested a Chinese couple in Abuja for allegedly locking up their Nigerian employees in their apartment for the past four months. Eight domestic workers were rescued by the personnel of the Utako Divisional Police Station on Tuesday following a tip-off by a resident, who reported the incident to the  Human Rights  radio station. The police raided the residence of the Chinese in the Jabi area of Abuja and took the unidentified couple and their domestic employees to the station. In footage provided by the International Centre for Investigative Reporting, the victims said they had been locked up in the apartment since February. A lady, who did not give her name, said the domestic workers were not allowed to move out of the building and that the couple refused to allow her to go for treatment when she took ill.
