EndSARS: Sergeant threatens police brutality panel member, begs for forgiveness

There was disquiet at the Ogun State Judcial Panel of Investigation Against Police Brutality when a policeman, Sergeant Adeleke Olalekan, allegedly threatened members of the panel. The panel, which sat at the Magistrate Court 1, Isabo, Abeokuta, on Monday, was cross-examining the Officer in-Charge of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad, CSP Gbenga Megbope. Olalekan had accompanied his boss, Megbope, who was a respondent in a case of brutality against some people in the state. Olalekan was, however, allegedly caught pointing at the panel members in a manner suggestive of threats. The Chairman of the panel, Justice Solomon Olugbemi, called him out and booked him for punishment as stipulated under the commission of inquiry law. Assistant Commissioner of Police bags life sentence for receiving stolen vehicle

An Ado Ekiti High Court has sentenced a 57 years old Assistant Commissioner of Police, Okubo Aboye, and his mechanic, 39-years-old Niyi Afolabi, to life imprisonment for receiving stolen vehicle. Justice John Adeyeye also sentenced seven others to five years imprisonment without an option of fine for kidnapping. They are Solomon Ayodele Obamoyegun  (39), Femi Omiawe (40), Damilola Obamoyegun (20), Bose Sade Ajayi (30), George Lucky (35), Chukwuma Nnamani (22) and Sunday Ogunleye (45). Aboye was a serving ACP at the time the incident happened and the mechanic was said to have bought a stolen vehicle from the kidnappers, who were sentenced to five years. Delivering his judgment, Justice Adeyeye said, “Kidnapping people for ransom is very rampant not only in the state, but in Nigeria as a whole. FUTA deputy registrar, others shot on Osogbo expressway

A deputy registrar in the Federal University of Technology,  Akure,  Ondo State, Dr Amos Arijesuyo, has been reportedly shot by  gunmen in the  Iwaraja end of the Ilesa- Akure Expressway in Osun State. Arijesuyo, who worked at the Guildance and Counselling section of the Students Affairs Department of the university was said to have been attacked on Saturday by the gunmen alongside his driver and one unidentified person. It was gathered that the deceased was also a senior Pastor at the Christ Apostolic Church, Glory of God, FUTA. A pastor of the church, Pastor Olu Aladesanmi, who confirmed the incident, said it happened between 5pm and 6pm on Saturday. He said, “The pastor and his driver are fortunate to have survived the attack with bullet injuries. Engineer, David Ntekim-Rex, has been killed by armed robbers in the Jibowu area of Lagos State,  The PUNCH  has learnt. Ntekim-Rex, according to a 2018 statement by IBM, had beaten 17,000 others from around the world, including finalists from Brazil, Germany, India, Japan, Nepal, and the United States to emerge as the co-regional winner of the annual Master the Mainframe competition, organised by AngelHack and IBM Z Academic Initiative. The deceased, who was described as a tech guru by friends, bagged several certificates and accomplishments before graduating from the Department of Systems Engineering at the University of Lagos in 2019. He was working as a Product Designer at a Financial Technology firm, Crevatal, before his demise, according to his  LinkedIn  profile. Nigerian footballer Asisat Oshoala announces ‘mother’s death’

Super Falcons captain, Asisat Oshoala, on  Sunday, announced the death of her “mummy”. The 26-year-old, who also plays for Barcelona Ladies, made this known in a video posted on her Instagram page on Sunday night. She said, “I still find it difficult to accept but this is my reality Allahu Allah. Mummy, I’m so short of words right now… “I’ve heard lots of it has happened, it has happened, there is nothing you can do to bring her back, you are a strong girl… I just cannot process these lines, mummy, you are not gone; it is not possible.” In an emotion-laden tone, Oshoala promised the late “mummy” that she would chase all dreams for her. “I’ll still chase every damn dream for you, mummy. May Allah accept your return, eliminate your grave and forgive your shortcomings and make us reunite in Janah Firdaus. Amen,” the footballer said amid tears.
