Benjamin Mendy Former Manchester City and France footballer Benjamin Mendy broke down in tears on Friday, as a UK jury cleared him of sex offences, ending a three-year court ordeal. Mendy, 28, put his head on his knees and wiped away tears on hearing the verdict at the end of the three-week trial at Chester Crown Court in northwest England. The jury of six men and six women took around three hours and 15 minutes to reach their not guilty verdicts on one count of rape and another of attempted rape. The star footballer, who would have faced a lengthy jail term if convicted, had previously being cleared in January of six counts of rape and one of sexual assault following a six-month trial. But jurors in that trial had been unable to reach a verdict on two other counts resulting in a retrial. Mendy, whose contract with Manchester City expired at the end of June, had denied all the charges against him. Osun masqueraders, Muslims reach truce ahead of Egungun festival

  The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Kehinde Longe, has brokered peace between the Chief Imam of the Kamaudeen Mosque, Osogbo, Alhaji Kasim Yunis, and the custodian of a masquerade, Chief Kayode Esuleke, as the annual Egungun masquerade holds in the town. A statement issued in Osogbo on Thursday, signed by the command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, said the two men agreed to allow peace reign during the festival at a meeting held at the instance of the CP. Members of the Kamaudeen Mosque and the followers of Esuleke masquerade had a history of dangerous clashes, the last one being the bloody fight of Sunday, June 27, 2021, which led to the death of a member of the mosque, while nine others were injured. To prevent  a reoccurrence, Longe, who harped on the need to embrace peace at the meeting, also warned that the command would not condone any act that could lead to a breach of public peace. Apostle Suleman meant to be killed during attack – Suspect

Police authorities, on Thursday, in Abuja paraded no fewer than 20 suspects arrested for offences including conspiracy, attempted murder, murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and possession of illicit drugs among others. One of the suspects is 32-year-old Yusuf Isah who was arrested in connection with the October 2022 attack on the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman. The suspect, in an interview with journalists, admitted that the attack on the cleric was meant to assassinate him. Gunmen attacked the convoy of the cleric along the Benin-Auchi Road in Edo State and killed six persons, including three policemen. Addressing journalists while parading the suspect and others in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said operatives of the Intelligence Rapid Team arrested Isah following an intensive investigation. Mmesoma: Fake JAMB result

UTME Fraud: My Daughter Didn’t Open Up To Me On Time, Says Mmesoma's Father Romanus Ejikeme, father of embattled Anambra Student, Mmesoma Ejikeme, who recently confessed to the forgery of the result of her 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination has said that his daughter didn’t confess her “crime” to him on time. Romanus disclosed this on Saturday in an interview with NTA News shared on Twitter. Mmesoma's father pleaded with Nigerians and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board to forgive his daughter. He said, "As I said earlier, my daughter didn't open up to me on time. When I realised the mistake that she made, I blamed her.  "I tell her every day to be careful not to dent her image as a star. I apologise to JAMB and Nigerians to pardon her."
