Nigerian Troops At least 26 members of the Nigerian security forces were killed and eight wounded in an ambush by gunmen in central Nigeria late Sunday, two military sources told AFP. Additionally, an air force spokesman said a helicopter rescuing the wounded crashed on Monday morning in the area, where the army is fighting criminal groups, without specifying whether the crew and passengers had survived. The two military officers asked not to be identified because they were not authorised to speak on the incident while military authorities were not available for comment. “We lost 23 soldiers, including three officers, and three Civilians JTF (vigilantes) in the encounter while eight soldiers were injured,” said the first source, following “a serious fight” along the Zungeru-Tegina highway. A Nigerian soldier, identified as  Daniel Odih , has been killed by Boko Haram terrorists in Abuja just four days after his mother was murdered in Benue State. Daniel was one of the soldiers killed during an attack on a military checkpoint near Zuma Rock on Thursday night, July 28. Bandits have attacked a mining site in Niger State and reportedly killed security agents, civilians, and kidnapped three Chinese nationals. The attack was said to have occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Ajata, Aboki in Gurmana ward of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.   The Lagos State Police command has confirmed the arrest of two herdsmen who were responsible for the death of a man early Monday morning in Age Mowo, Badagry. The state police PRO, Benjamin Hundeyin clarified that the cattle herders mistook a man for the conductor of the vehicle which led to his death. Hundeyin in a statement via his twitter account shared: "A commercial vehicle ran into two cows this morning at Age Mowo, Badagry, killing one of the cows. The two cattle herders attacked someone they mistook for the vehicle conductor, resulting in his death. Angry residents blocked the highway in protest of the killing.   Nigeria’s security situation appears to be worsening as the country witnessed yet another attack on churches following the killing of worshippers in Owo, a town in Ondo State. Just two weeks after the incident in Owo, gunmen struck again, this time in Kaduna State where they attacked two churches. The worship centres which came under attack by the gunmen believed to be bandits were Saint Moses Catholic Church and Maranatha Baptist Church – both in Kajuru Local Government Area of the state.
