William Troost-Ekong may lose his spot in Watfordās defence after he conceded a late penalty in Hornetās 2-1 away loss at Brentford on Friday, WEXERES Sports Extra reports.
A clumsy Troost-Ekong challenge on Saman Ghoddos handed the Bees a penalty in the final minute of added time which was coolly slotted home by Bryan Mbeumo ā an error that cost Watford a point and saw them lose a fourth straight league game.
And Ranieri who was left frustrated by Troost-Ekongās error revealed he will meet with the defender ahead of the Hornets clash against Burnley.
The Nigerian had also made a mistake in Watfordās recent 4-2 loss at Leicester.
āI have to see if there are some players ready to play. Because my defensive line is not ready to play, because Christian Kabasele wasnāt ready. Francisco Sierralta isnāt ready. I have to see,ā Ranieri said.
āWe missed a short pass. So then put the ball out of the stadium. Then the penalty ā if Willie (Troost-Ekong) had just stayed calm and followed him until the end but thatās it, thatās football, you have to concentrate 100 per cent until the end.ā
āNow we will see everything, I will speak with Troost-Ekong before our next game against Burnley.ā
I was frustrated, but my mind is on the next match. We know we are in a relegation battle. It is important to react immediately. We have to be stronger and be ready for the battle.
Ranieri also added that he does not believe his defendersā problems are psychological but adds that whoever plays against Burnley in midweek simply has to be stronger than those who played against Brentford.
āI donāt know if itās psychological because Watford came in the Premier League this season and itās normal to be in relegation battle,ā he added.
āWe knew that and we have to react, we have to play stronger than. There will be another battle in a few days.ā
Troost-Ekong has made 15 EPL appearances so far this term and the Hornets are yet to keep a clean sheet with the Nigerian in action.
