Nigerian soldier runs amok, kills colleague, aid worker, injures UN co-pilot

A soldier of the 25 Task Force Brigade in Borno ran amok on Thursday and shot a female humanitarian aid worker to death while injuring a UN pilot. He also shot and killed another soldier. Reports said he would have taken more lives, but for the quick intervention of his colleagues who killed him. Reacting to the incident, the Theatre Command of “Operation HADIN KAI’’, expressed regret at the sad occurrence at one of its military bases. The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Samson Zhakom, said the soldier shot and killed a staff member of one of the NGOs providing humanitarian support in the Northeast. “Same soldier also killed another soldier and injured the co-pilot of one of the UN helicopters. Own troops on the ground immediately neutralised the errant personnel,’’ he said. Army dismisses soldiers accused of killing Islamic cleric

The Nigerian Army has dismissed two soldiers accused of killing an Islamic cleric in Yobe State, identified as Sheikh Goni Gashua. The dismissed soldiers are identified as; Lance Corporal John Gabriel and Lance Corporal Adamu Gideon. The cleric, who was traveling from Kano State, was said to have given Gabriel a lift. On getting to Jaji-Maji, a village along Gashua town, Gabriel was said to have told the deceased that there was an unusual noise at the rear tyre. The cleric, it was gathered, stopped to check the tyres. Gabriel was said to have allegedly brought out his rifle concealed in a camp bed and shot the cleric dead. He, however, called Gideon on phone to assist him to tow the vehicle. The Nigeria Army set up a board of Inquiry to investigate the alleged murder of the Islamic cleric by soldiers who had been arrested by the police. SAD! Soldier killed by terrorists in Abuja four days after his mother was murdered by suspected herdsmen in Benue

A Nigerian soldier, identified as  Daniel Odih , has been killed by Boko Haram terrorists in Abuja just four days after his mother was murdered in Benue State. Daniel was one of the soldiers killed during an attack on a military checkpoint near Zuma Rock on Thursday night, July 28. It was gathered that the terrorists arrived Zuma Rock around 8:30pm and opened fire from different angles at the soldiers stationed at the checkpoint between Abuja and Niger State. Sadly, Daniel was one of the victims of the attack. Writing in his tribute to the slain soldier, one  Clement Excel  said the deceased’s mother was killed by suspected herdsmen on her farm in Benue state on Monday, July 25. 314 suspected Boko Haram, ISWAP members surrender in Borno

  The Nigerian Army on Wednesday said 314 suspected members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province have surrendered. They were said to have surrendered to troops in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State as a result of the ongoing offensive onslaught against terrorism in the North East. According to a terse statement by the Army, 12 farmers were also rescued by troops. “Profiling of the surrendered terrorists is ongoing,” the statement added.
